50% Women Run Farms
Approximately 50% of the 300 farmers are women who own and cultivate their own land. They are paid premium prices and treat their fermented cacao as unique, ensuring traceability for every seed we use.
Rainforest in Guatemala
The cacao is brown in the natural and/or manmade subtropical forests, as fine cacao requires approximately 70% shade for optimal growth. This cultivation method helps preserve the ancient forests of the region, positioning these small-scale cacao producers as the front line defenders of some of Guatemala’s most important natural reserves.
